As part of Nostalgic Oldham Day, we are opening up the doors in our new location in the Spindles and we’re really excited to welcome you all.
Starting at 10am, visitors to Oldham Archives will be able to browse a small selection of archives and local studies material, look through some of our historical maps, listen to oral histories from the collection on our new sound kiosk, and join our Archivist on a tour of the new collections store.
The tours will run at 11am and 11.45am. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so get here early to pick up a ticket.

Alongside this, if you have a burning question about Oldham’s history, or want to find out how to start researching your family tree, a member of the team will be happy to help you in a drop-in Heritage Help Desk slot.

The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Eddie Moores, will officially declare Oldham Archives open at 2pm.
While we won’t be running our full service as part of the Open Day, Oldham Archives staff will be on hand to answer questions and talk about how the service will run in its new location.
If you’ve been itching to get back into the search room, start planning your visit now. Our doors will be open to researchers from Monday 29 September. We still have some collections to move in, so can’t resume our full service straight away, but we’ll have lots that we can offer you in the meantime.
Here’s a reminder of our new opening hours from 29 September: Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 10am-1pm.
You can find us on the corner of Parliament Square and Ascroft Street, just across the road from Billingtons.
