Writing & Reading Groups
Silent Book Club at Oldham Library
Silent Book Club meets fortnightly (from 8 September 2026), downstairs at Oldham Library, from 17:30 – 18:30. Bring your own book and read in companionable quiet. It’s an Introvert Happy Hour! Check the event listings for all upcoming dates.
Bring your current read (in any format), or choose one when you get here. Bring a friend, or come by yourself. You don’t even have to read – you can bring anything you can work on quietly (homework, writing, art, craft…) We’re meeting in public, so there will be some ambient noise. Feel free to bring headphones, book lights or ear defenders if you want. We read together quietly with no expectation of talking although you’re welcome to stay afterwards and socialise.
Creative writing
Our creative writing groups are great for meeting other writers, sharing your work, and giving feedback on a monthly basis.
If you’re passionate about writing and interested in improving, or just want some support, they are all friendly groups who always welcome newcomers.

Reading groups
Our reading groups meet once a month in a relaxed, informal setting.
We love to welcome new members; whether you’re an avid reader who can’t put books down, or someone who dips in and out of books when time allows.
Books are provided by us and you’ll be able to suggest titles for future reads.
