In 2023, a number of Oldham residents answered the call by showing an interest in creating a Friends group for Gallery Oldham.

Chairman of the newly formed group, Roger Hindle says, “A lot of work has been done to get us to the stage where we can officially launch and this is a very exciting time, both for the Gallery and the new Friends Group.”

Did you know that over a million Indian soldiers served in the British Indian Army during World War I. Their stories were forgotten, and even ignored in the writing of histories of the war. Bani Abidi’s sound installation includes 24 English-translations of censured letters of these very young men, often boys, many of whom never returned home.
Come and experience Abidi’s unique exhibition for free before it leaves on the 1st June.
