Home Ed Programme: Observing & Classifying Animals (KS1)
February 26 @ 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM

Join us for the first session of our home ed programme where your children will learn how to observe, identify and classify animals.
Our animal expert Alex will use Gallery Oldham’s natural history collection to help home educated children to observe, identify and classify animals into the following categories:
- vertebrates and invertebrates.
- fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
- carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
Children will play classification and habitat games, draw and label animals from our natural history collection and explore the differences between animals through play in our Education Suite. They will then discover animals in our permanent gallery, Oldham Stories, from a variety of local habitats around Oldham. Alex will end the session with an interactive reading of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson to reinforce the differences between mammals, birds and reptiles.
This session is for Key Stage 1 children aged 5 to 7 years old.
Adults must stay with their children during the session to help them engage with the activities.
