30 May 2026 – 31 March 2027

Oldham is Greater Manchester Town of Culture for 2026 — a year‑long celebration of creativity, community and confidence.

Rising above Greater Manchester, both physically and in spirit, Oldham has always looked outward and upward. Rising Up reflects the town’s ambition, resilience and rich cultural identity, shaped by innovation, diversity and strong community pride.

One of the most ethnically diverse towns in the region, Oldham’s creativity is powered by its people and their shared stories. From world‑changing inventions to influential artists, musicians, performers and thinkers, Oldham has long made its mark on the world.

Throughout 2026, Rising Up will bring festivals, performances, exhibitions and community‑led projects to life across the town — from re‑energised town‑centre venues to outdoor shared spaces and new green environments. Major cultural investment, including development and launch of new cultural hubs, will support a bold and inclusive programme.

Focused on Reach, Rise and Soar, the programme widens participation, nurtures local talent and empowers residents to shape Oldham’s cultural future — creating lasting impact beyond 2026.

Oldham – a town Rising Up, with culture at its heart.
