Gallery Talk: Police and Fire Service

November 30 @ 10:30 am 11:30 am

Join us in the One Seven Five exhibition for an Audio Described gallery talk with curator Karen Heatley and interpreter Anne Hornsby. Find out more about the beginnings of the fire and police service in Oldham including personal stories and momentous events such as the Victoria Market Hall fire. Learn about the early police service and Clara Walkden of Oldham Borough Police who in 1921 became the first known sworn-in Police Woman Constable in the Greater Manchester area. This is one of a series of talks celebrating 175th anniversary of the founding of the borough of Oldham and our latest exhibition One Seven Five: An incomplete history of Oldham in 175 objects. All our Gallery Talks are free, informal and last around 45 minutes with time for questions at the end. Meet in Gallery 3 at 10.30am.
