St Chad’s Heritage Day – Discover the Story of Uppermill Library
September 19 @ 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM

St Chad’s, Uppermill is now a beautiful library at the heart of a thriving Saddleworth village – but it hasn’t always been so.
Join us for our family-friendly Heritage Day and uncover the building’s rich and fascinating past. From its humble beginnings through to its Gothic Revival transformation, you’ll discover the stories woven into its history – and learn about the people who have worked, lived and died here.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Peter Lindfield FSA from Cardiff University, who will be sharing his expertise on George Shaw, exploring his architecture and furniture design.
Library staff will also be bringing history to life with stories about the building’s changing role within the village, and the people connected to it over the years.
There will be lots of fun activities for all the family, making it a day not to be missed!
The library has accessible access through the main front door. Parking is available at the rear of the building.
This event is part of Oldham Histories Festival 2026.
